Eliminate risk of outages
Our goal is to provide you with a reliable online backup service, which you can offer to your customers. BackupAgent’s architecture is designed to accomplish this is aimed to keep the backup system in operation at all times. With this approach, BackupAgent clearly distinguishes itself from other backup software platforms. BackupAgent believes that an online backup provider cannot be in business with a platform that runs the risk of outages in which case a lengthy and tedious recovery and
renewed setup of systems is required.
Other vendors tend to sell such scenarios referring to it as replication or ‘backup of backup’. Although data replication of the backup is highly recommended it should not be accounted for as being ‘ideal’. BackupAgent’s vision on this subject is that data redundancy is very important and should preferably be delivered on storage platform level if possible. In this way redundant data storage or data replication does not stand in the way of backup performance or scalability.
Load balanced (or clustered) environment
BackupAgent can be hosted in a load balanced (or clustered) environment. You can install the BackupAgent Server Software on two or more servers, which will share the complete infrastructure. With this option you can offer high availability of the online backup services to your customers and partners. This availability can reach 99.999% due to the fact that you can eliminate all single points of failure.

Automatic failover
Eliminating all points of failure requires BackupAgent’s software to automatically failover in case a node collapses. All key elements of BackupAgent can be set up in a way that it can failover to a secondary location, including session management and database connectivity. Moreover BackupAgent can switch back to primary locations as soon as they come available again.
Separate physical locations
Ideally an automatic failover will also work in case of a complete power outage in the primary location. BackupAgent’s architecture can accomplish such a scenario by connecting to a seporate redundant storage location.
Replication to complete the system
BackupAgent’s vision on availability is that data redundancy is very important and should preferably be delivered on storage platform level if possible. BackupAgent also provides replication functionality of backup data on the primary storage systems. You can install and activate BackupAgent’s replication modules separately from the core system. BackupAgent’s replication is continuous and can be set per storage location in the system.
