BackupAgent was founded in the autumn of 2003 by Robbert van Geldrop, Roland Sars and Paul de Grijp. Market trends like the increasing demand for secure backup services and growing broadband-penetration created a vision among the founders. A vision to establish a replacement for the traditional backup methods with a convenient, reliable and internet-based online backup system.After a thoroughgoing market research, the development of a software product called ‘BackupAgent' started. The first commercial release (version 1.0) was introduced to the market in the summer of 2004.
Continuous innovations led to the success of the online backup solution. Relevant features and functionalities were added over time, and a stable and reliable online backup platform was created. The solution allowed partners to offer an online backup service to their (SMB-)customers, while medium & large businesses use BackupAgent for the backup of their internal critical data.
